Each year as the days get longer and nights grow chill, there's a certain feeling in the air. It's a special feeling – of warmth, of closeness, of family – and if you know Memphis you know it's time to make your annual pilgrimage to the Graceland Lighting Ceremony.
Dedicated fans from around the world gather at this iconic home to commemorate The King and his legacy in true southern style. Hundreds of blue lights illuminate the driveway, while a life-size Nativity scene and other of Elvis' original decorations set the holiday stage. The magic of the holiday season truly begins as kids get their first glimpse of Santa Claus – in this case, fittingly outfitted as the King of Rock ‘n Roll.
The highlight of the event culminates with a special celebrity guest flipping the switch to officially begin the festivities. This year's celebrity MC is still a surprise, but if past years are any indicator we're in for a real treat! Actor John Stamos hosted the ceremony in 2014; country music legend Trisha Yearwood had the honor in 2015, performing a few songs to the celebratory crowd. In true southern style, the lighting event is always free and open to the public.
These distinctive decorations remain on display until Elvis' birthday in 2017, so you've got time to see them once… and return again for a repeat viewing of Christmas in true Presley style.
