Sure, Memphis is home to amazing food, rockin’ music and the nicest locals anywhere. So it’s no surprise it’s also home to the Memphis International Film Festival – “Celebrating Filmmakers and Musicians in Memphis Since 1999!”
The festival has grown over the years and holds a special place in the hearts of film buffs. Festival-goers come from around the country (and, indeed, the world) to attend – held in the Home of the Blues, it attracts the world’s most talented actors, directors and film makers.
Since its humble beginnings, the festival has brought in a rich selection of regional, national and international films, and now holds its place as a must-see on the annual list of every film buff. Past showings have included numerous Academy Award nominated films, and the Festival strives to present the best of the best each year.
You’ll be in good company at the Festival: past attendees include Morgan Freeman, Holly Hunter and Isaac Hayes – so keep your eyes open to spot the stars this year! Of course, it’s the locals that make it a real taste of down-home Memphis, and the staff of the Festival makes Memphis proud.
Screenings are held at the Clayborn Temple, a sacred Memphis institution near us at the Crowne Plaza Memphis Downtown, conveniently located near the best Memphis has to offer. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, rehabilitation of the Clayborn began in October 2015 and it serves as the perfect backdrop to this stellar lineup of films.
