Here’s the inside scoop on the best thing about summertime in Memphis: while tourists are busy on Beale Street, head to AutoZone Park to catch our hometown Memphis Redbirds knock it out of the park! Just a short drive from the modern Crowne Plaza Memphis Downtown hotel, you’ll be there before Rockey the Rockin' Redbird shakes his tail feathers on the field.
With an exciting 16 home games scheduled for August, there’s so many opportunities to kick back with a cold one and watch the Redbirds step up to the plate. Upcoming games face off against Omaha, Nashville and New Orleans - and our beloved hometown minor league team is ready to rumble, Southern-style.
As past winners of the Pacific Coast League Championship, the Redbirds have won a total of 9 League, Conference and Division Titles. And cheering with 10,000 other Redbird fans will put you in the Memphis spirit, quick!
Inaugurated during the 2000 season, you’ll enjoy the scene at AutoZone Park – crowned “Minor League Ballpark of the Year” by Baseball America in 2009, it also hosts games for the University of Memphis baseball team (including their annual game against Ole Miss).
And be sure to show up hungry: if you think you’ll be relegated to typical stadium food, you’re in for a real Memphis treat! Sure, you can load up on the classics: hot dogs, pretzels, pizza and burgers. Stop by The Brewhouse and choose from over 20 local and regional beer, check out Flew The Coop for all things chicken… and save room for BBQ, waffles and of course – ice cream!
We’ve been saving our best insider tip for last: stick around after the August 19th game for an amazing post-game fireworks show (with a musical backdrop), for a summer night in Memphis you’ll never forget.
