In 2012, SoMoaka Joseph Somers-Morales independently released his mixtape, My Life, after growing a vast following by uploading popular renditions of new and old classics to YouTube. A powerful, palpable, and passionate collection, My Life merged R&B spirit with pop soul, showcasing SoMo's dynamic voice and his songwriting prowess. The mixtape spawned the Texas native's first hit "Ride," which began selling 10,000 digital tracks weekly- prior to any radio support or label backing. At the time, the accompanying music video, directed by Dan Gotti, quickly amassed over 3 million views which has since grown to over 20 million. In addition, the mixtape gained SoMo early support from legendary producer Mannie Fresh, who appeared in the video for his song "Kings and Queens."As "Ride" continued to gain steam, SoMo hit the road for a sold out headline tour. Struck by all of his independent success, Republic Records reached out and offered him a deal in October 2013.In February of 2014, SoMo released his self-titled debut album, which entered at #6 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the iTunes Album Chart. His breakout single "Ride" is now certified double platinum and remained in the Top 10 of the iTunesR&B chart for 25 consecutive weeks. National Television performances on VH-1's Big Morning Buzz, The Arsenio Hall Show, and BET's 106 & Park soon followed.Simultaneously, SoMo released a cover song every single Sunday as part of his "SoMo Sunday" campaign. Speaking directly to his fans, he offered up new music each week, and the series has accrued nearly 305 million views on YouTube.
